The Cardiff city manager Malky Mackay has said that his side might have been nervous in the opening Championship match against Huddersfield town. Cardiff will be having a tough first few weeks of the campaign due to the fact that they will be facing the likes of Leeds United and Wolverhampton Wanderers in the first five matches. Before the start of the new season, the manager has said that it is vital that they begin the new season with great sharpness, but there was little of that to be seen in the match against Huddersfield town. However, Cardiff were rescued as a result of the last minute goal by Mark Hudson.
This gave the club all three points from the first match of the new season. Speaking after the match, the manager has admitted that the players might have been extremely nervous prior to the start of the first match, which could explain the reason for the poor performance. However, he has said that things will certainly improve in the second match of the season when they take on Brighton and Hove Albion. The rebranding of the club coupled with a number of other factors meant that there was an air of nervousness prior to the start of the match.
“Obviously it was a big evening against Huddersfield in terms of the way the summer has gone with the red and blue situation. It was the first game of the season. We had the Malaysian owners over and the game was live here and in Malaysia. It really was the curtain- raiser. There was probably quite a lot of pressure on the players so to keep going was good – and it’s always nice to score at the end,” said the Cardiff manager Malky Mackay after the 1-0 win over Huddersfield town.
